How long is a baby considered a Newborn? and what is the difference between Newborn Clothing and 0-3 months?

Baby Alex is Here! 10-06-08 asked:

I am a few days shy of being 35 weeks pregnant and am trying to prepare the best that I can for my little man to arrive. I have been looking at the clothing that i got from my baby shower and was curious how long a baby is considered a newborn and what the difference is between newborn clothing and 0-3 month baby clothing.

I’d say after three months, it is no longer a newborn.
Newborn clothing is supposed to be for up to eight pounds….Emma wore it until ten pounds.

Newborn usually means up to 8 Lbs. 0-3 months usually means up to 12 lbs. I found that length made more of a difference than weight, though. My daughter was 8lbs 5 oz, and newborn fit her for awhile.

really it all depends on how large your baby is at birth (height and weight) Some babies (like mine) dont stay in newborn clothes very long.. maybe 2 weeks? 0-3 mos will usually last you a little while, unless your baby is over 8lbs.. Do any of the clothes list height and wait of the child? (like some clothes that i had for my son would say 0-3 mos or 12-18 lbs) Things like that..

good luck to you! and congrats! (oh and i would say they are “considered” newborn, not as in clothing size, but just after being born to about 2 mos..after which they are called infants.)

I think a baby is considered a newborn until they are about four months. Newborn clothes are typically smaller than 0-3 month clothing. My two month old already out grew her “newborn” clothing but she still fits in her 0-3 month clothes. Now that we’re on the subject, don’t you think the sizing of baby clothes is messed up? My daughter fits in some 0-3 months clothes, but she can also wear some 6 months clothes. It’s retarded, clothing companies need to stick to one pattern for sizes. They’re all messed up!

the pediatrician considers them newborn until 3 months old..and the 0-3 clothing is bigger than newborn clothing..all depends on how big the baby is at birth
