What to Look for When Buying Infant Girl Clothes
As a new mother, you may be tempted by all of the adorable pink little outfits that are waiting for you in your local department or kids clothing store, but you need to know what to buy – and more importantly, what not to buy – when you are looking for infant girl clothes for your newborn. The clothes may look great, but when your girl is young, functionality should be key, because you will have an awful lot of work on your hands.
The first problem that you may find with many of the infant girl clothes on the market is that they have lots of little pieces. Little zippers, little buttons, little clasps – and you have to be very careful. Not all clothing that is made in other countries is up to our safety standards and you have to make sure that every piece is properly sewn on to the piece, and that nothing is so small that your child can attempt to swallow it.
Another issue with buttons in particular is that they are fussy. When you have a baby, or especially when you are juggling more than one child, the last thing you need to worry about is doing and undoing buttons. You are much better off buying infant girl clothes that have Velcro or some other kind of fastener that does not take so much intricate attention.
Perhaps the most important factor to considering when buying clothes for your baby is laundering. You will be doing a lot of laundry over the next few year and you need clothes that wash well, are sturdy, don’t run, and will not wrinkle or shrink excessively. Take a good look at the label before you buy and make sure that the clothes will stand up to years of hot water washing and drying.
